Dr. Perdiguerra promoted to University Researcher 3
Dr. Kim Nyka C. Perdiguerra, an alumna of the Nagoya University (NU) Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences (GSBS) under the NU Transnational Programs for Leadinig Professionals in Asian Countries, was recently promoted from University Researcher 1 to University Researcher 3 under the Crop Physiology Division, Institute of Crop Science at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).
Fresh from her graduation in September 2022, Dr. Perdiguerra wasted no time to continue doing collaborative research with her NU adviser, Dr. Shiro Mitsuya and the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) Director, Dr. Victoria Lapitan at Bicol region, Philippines. Her local supervisor during her NU years was Dr. Pompe Sta. Cruz, UPLB Professor Emeritus.
Dr. Perdiguerra was assigned as Project Leader of Department of Agriculture –Bureau of Agricultural Research – funded project titled “Quinoa Adaptation in the Philippines: Improvement on Propagation and Marketability Towards a Sustainable Commercial Production in the Identified Suitable Areas”; Project Leader, of the UPLB-core funded project “In vitro propagation of Quassia amara using different explants”; and Study Leader of an Income generating project under the Crop Physiology which focuses on the In vitro Micropropagation of ‘Saba’ and ‘Lakatan.” She was Consultant/Mentor in the basic research funded by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension titled “Improvement of the seed germination and seedling growth of selected vegetable crops subjected to one year storage and paclobutrazol treatment using liquid smoke.”
Dr. Perdiguerra received a grant to attend the IRRI Rice: Research to Production training (18 days) which covered challenges and change in the rice industry from production to market and advancement on rice research. She is currently co-mentoring three undergraduate students and one graduate student as an Affiliate Faculty of the Institute of Crop Science. She was featured in the Icrops UPLB Forum on Faces of Women in Crop Science 2023, an event held in celebration of Women’s Month 2023.
Dr. Pediguerra is a member of the Institute of Crop Science Research Committee Organization; Adviser of the UP Society of Agronomy Major Students; a member of Philajames (Philippine Association of the Japanese Government Scholars, Inc.) as well as the International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences; and Associate Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines.
