Nagoya University Asian Satellite Campuses Institute in Mongolia Welcomes New Doctoral Students at the 2025 Entrance Ceremony

The Entrance Ceremony of the Nagoya University Asian Satellite Campuses Institute (NU ASCI) in Mongolia was held on 23 October 2025 at Urguu Ballroom, Galleria Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  The ceremony brought together Nagoya University professors and officials from Embassy of Japan, JICA Mongolia Office, National Emergency and Management Agency (NEMA), and the Supreme Court of Mongolia. 
 
The three new students admitted to ASCI programs are Mr. Mendjargal TULGA, Project Coordinator of the Biodiversity and Adaptation Climate Change Project (NU Graduate School of Environmental Studies, GSES); Mr. Tuvdendorj ZORIG, a senior specialist from the Policy Planning Department of National Emergency and Management Agency (NU GSES); and Mr. Amarbayar BODIBILEG, a judicial clerk at the Supreme Court of Mongolia (NU Graduate School of Law).

President Naoshi SUGIYAMA of Nagoya University shared his warm message through video presentation. In his address, President Sugiyama reaffirmed the university’s mission to promote higher education and advance research through the ASCI initiatives and serve as vital platform for nurturing future leaders capable of addressing challenges in Mongolia.

Ms. Yoriko ITO, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan commended that the Nagoya University’s networks and activities in Mongolia are reflections of the strong and enduring Japan-Mongolia friendship and cooperation in the field of education. 

Mr. Kensuke MIYAGI, Chief Representative of the JICA Mongolia Office highlighted the importance of academic collaboration and human resource development in supporting Mongolia’s sustainable growth and resilience. 

Prof. Masafumi NAKAHIGASHI, Dean of the Graduate School of Law, expressed his warm greetings and commitment to help the new students along their academic journey through the ASCI program. 

 Prof. Hiroki TANIKAWA, Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts that sustained the GSES program in ASCI Mongolia.  He also encouraged new students to engage actively in academic research activities pressing environmental, legal, and social issues in Mongolia.  

Colonel Demberelnyam BAASANSUREN, Director of the Disaster Risk Management Department of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) emphasized the long-standing collaboration between Nagoya University and NEMA has played an important role in research and education in disaster risk reduction in Mongolia. 

Dr. Tsogt TSEND, Justice of the Supreme Court of Mongolia expressed his gratitude on the continuous collaboration through ASCI programs which has been serving a critical role in advancing and strengthening institutional governance in Mongolia. 

Prof. Yasuhiro SUZUKI of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies reflected on the research activities of Nagoya University in Mongolia in collaboration with National University of Mongolia and JICA Mongolia.  He congratulated the new students and underscored the role of ASCI programs in enhancing human resources and nurturing future leaders in Mongolia. 

Prof. Dashbalbar GANGABAATAR, Justice of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia, expressed appreciation for the educational cooperation between Nagoya University and Mongolian Institutions, highlighting its contribution to capacity building and judicial education.

In closing, Prof. Akira YAMAUCHI, Director of the Asian Satellite Campuses Institute of Nagoya University, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the partners, participants for their continuous support and engagement. He also presented the accomplishments and updates on collaboration activities in ASCI Mongolia.  He reaffirmed the Nagoya University’s continuing mission to expand learning opportunities and promote international collaboration in education and research. 

The Dean of Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Prof. Hiroki Tanikawa delivered a congratulatory message to the new ASCI students. 


The NU ASCI Director, Prof. Akira Yamauchi presented the activites of ASCI and highlighted the on-going collaboration of ASCI Mongolia with other government and academic insitutions in Mongolia.
