Uzbekistan Satellite Campus welcomes five new well-motivated Uzbek doctoral students at its 2025 Entrance Ceremony

The Entrance Ceremony of the Nagoya University Asian Satellite Campuses Institute (NU ASCI) in Uzbekistan was held on October 16, 2025 at the International Business Center in Tashkent City.  The ceremony brought more than 80 people together, including Nagoya University professors and representatives from the Embassy of Japan, the JICA Uzbekistan Office, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Justice, the Academy of State Policy and Management under the President of Uzbekistan, and other partner organizations. Dozens of Nagoya University alumni also attended the ceremony. Mr. Eldorjon Elmurodov, Head of NU Office in Uzbekistan served as moderator for the event. 

The five new students admitted to ASCI programs are:

・Mr. Kuysinov Odil, Vice Rector of the Nordik International University in Tashkent, (Graduate School of Education and Human Development, GSEHD); 
・Ms. Burkhonkhujaeva Khushnamo, Specialist in the Teacher Education Department, Ministry of Preschool and School Education (GSEHD), 
・Mr. Erkinov Shokhrukh, Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Education, Tashkent University of Information Technologies (GSEHD),
・Mr. Buzrukov Azbarkhuja, Instructor in the Department of Language Teaching Methodology, Pedagogical Skills Center of Ferghana Region (GSEHD); and
・Ms. Shukurova Guljamol, Head Inspector of the Public Relations Sector at Business Ombudsman Office in Uzbekistan (Graduate School of Law).



At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr.Naoshi Sugiyama, President of Nagoya University shared a warm message through a video presentation. In his address, President Sugiyama reaffirmed the university’s mission to promote higher education and advance research through ASCI initiatives and serve as a vital platform for nurturing future leaders capable of addressing the challenges in Uzbekistan.

In her greeting remarks, Ms. Shakirova Sevara from the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan congratulated the new students on their admission to the ASCI program and wished them all the best in their academic journey. 
 
Dr. Kazuhito Kawakita, Vice Chancellor of the Global Multi-Campus Institute, also delivered welcome remarks and extended his sincere congratulations to the five incoming graduate students of the NU Uzbekistan Satellite Campus. He also emphasized the long-standing collaboration between Nagoya University and Uzbekistan. 

After the commemorative photo session, Professor Akira Yamauchi, Director of ASCI, gave a detailed introduction of ASCI’s strategies, perspectives, and pathways for collabortation with program graduates in Uzbekistan. 

Welcome remarks by Dr. Jiro Takai, Dean of the GSEHD, followed via a video message. He encouraged students to engage actively in academic research and pursue their studies with enthusiasm.  

Next, Dr. Alisher Umirdinov, Designated Professor from the Graduate School of Law, congratulated the incoming graduate students on behalf of Professor Masafumi Nakahigashi, Dean of the Graduate School of Law. He urged the students to keep a close contact with their professors and to never give up during their long academic journey. 

The guests were then introduced to the newly admitted ASCI students.The new doctoral students expressed their commitment to academic endeavors and research. Following them, Dr. Aktam Jalilov (Director of the Institute for Research of the Youth Problems and Training Prospective Personnel under Youth Affairs Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan) and Dr. Sardor Alimdjanov (Expert at the Asian Development Bank) – both ASCI alumni, shared their precious experiences and offered advice to the newly enrolled students.

Dr. Sarkar Arani Mohammad Reza, Professor of the GSEHD, also provided very useful guidance and recommendations for the newly admitted doctoral students. 

In closing, Professor Akira Yamauchi, Director of ASCI, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Uzbek partners, participants for their continuous support and engagement. He reaffirmed the NU’s continuing mission to expand learning opportunities and promote international collaboration in education and research.
