Nagoya University-SEARCA Filipino scholar successfully completes doctorate degree under the NU Transnational PhD program
Nagoya, Japan – Mr. Dennis M. Gilbero, Science Research Specialist II and in-charge of the Mindanao Tree Seed Center in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, has successfully completed his doctorate program in Nagoya University (NU) under the Transnational PhD Programs for Leading Professionals in Asian countries. The graduation ceremony was held on 27 September 2019 at the university’s Toyoda Auditorium in Nagoya, Japan. The Mindanao Tree Seed Center is under the Forest and Wetland Research, Development and Extension Center (FWRDEC) of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Dr. Gilbero who obtained the Doctorate Degree in Agriculture Science (Forestry Science) is one among four successful PhD graduates of the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences (GSBS) this year. His dissertation research is titled,“ Growth Stress and Wood Property Assessment of Different Provenances of Big-Leaf Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King) Landrace in the Philippines” under the supervision of his main adviser, Dr. Hiroyuki Yamamoto, and local supervisor, Dr. Willie P. Abasolo, Dean of UPLB’s College of Forestry and Natural Resources.
Dr. Gilbero started his doctorate program in October 2016 and was a recipient of the Nagoya University-SEARCA PhD Research Scholarship grant.
