Graduate School of Environmental Studies (GSES) Conducted Meeting with Partner Government Agencies and Universities in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

The Asian Satellite Campuses Institute (NUASCI) Graduate School of Environmental Studies (GSES) conducted meetings with the government agencies and universities in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from 17 February to 21 February 2025.  The meetings aimed to promote the GSES program to the partner agencies and universities and encourage their technical staff to enroll in the NU Transnational Doctoral Programs for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries. 

The ASCI GSES delegation included Prof. Hiroki Tanikawa, Assistant Dean of GSES, and Dr. Marianne Faith G. Martinico-Perez, Designated Lecturer of ASCI GSES, and Ms. Todrol Erdenesan from NUASC Mongolia, who provided valuable support throughout the meetings. 

The meetings were held between the following government agencies and universities in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia: 

1.    National University of Mongolia 
2.    Ministry of Economy and Development of Mongolia 
3.    Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology
4.    Ministry of Environment and Climate Change 
5.    Mongolia Academy of Science (MAS) – Institute of Geography and Geoecology 
6.    National Emergency Management Agency 
7.    Mongolian University of Science and Technology

Through the meetings, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology and National University of Mongolia manifested their appreciation and interest in inviting their faculty members to apply for the program.

The government agencies we visited expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Nagoya University for providing opportunities to enhance the technical skills and further develop human resources.  As a token of their appreciation, the book “Stories from the Wilderness: Mongolia and Beyond” was received from the Secretary of State, Mr. Erkhembayar Battulga from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.  Dr. Avirmed Dashtseren, Director General of the MAS – Institute of Geography and Geoecology also gave the National Atlas of Mongolia, which contains intensive data on natural resources, socio-cultural, and economic features of Mongolia. Similarly, Mr. Idesh Batkhuu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Development, expressed his gratitude and support, mentioning that the information will be shared with the staff.

The National Emergency Management Agency also expressed gratitude on the full support given to their staff who already graduated under the ASCI program. The Deputy Chief, Colonel Uranchimeg Tsogtbayar also mentioned that the risk assessment conducted by ASCI student was very useful wherein they managed to reduce the risks on the disasters in Mongolia by 60%.

The meeting with the ASCI GSES alumnus Dr. Purevdagva Khalzan of Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, and students Mr. Erdenebulgan Luvsandorj, Mr. Mendjargal Tulga, and Mr. Enkhmunkh Ganbold.  Mr. Narangerel Serdyanjiv, a graduating student joined the meeting and presentation of ASCI and ASCI GSES program in Institute of Geography and Geoecology. There were almost 20 participants in the presentation where Mr. Narangerel shared his experiences as ASCI student and encouraged his colleagues to apply in the program. The suggestion on having a local adviser, in addition to advisers based in Nagoya University was brought out. With the help of a local adviser, it can potentially improve the pace of the ASCI students who are working on their research in Mongolia.  

The warm reception and positive feedback received from senior officers of various government agencies and universities across Mongolia highlight the significant impact and value of the program. These responses underscore the program's pivotal role in enhancing the technical capacity of their human resources. By equipping professionals with advanced skills and knowledge, the program not only contributes to the growth of individual capabilities but also plays a crucial role in strengthening the overall development of key sectors in the country. This appreciation from respected institutions further demonstrates the program's relevance and importance in addressing the evolving needs of Mongolia's workforce.
