[Event Report] Successful Completion of the Joint NU-UPLB Workshop

We are pleased to report that the Joint NU-UPLB Workshop, which we previously announced on this page, was successfully held on August 6 at University of the Philippines Los Baños.  

The workshop attracted a great number of participants and received positive feedback. We sincerely thank everyone who attended and supported the workshop.

This seminar featured multiple speakers from diverse backgrounds, each offering unique insights into development economics research in Southeast Asia.

Dr. Yasuyuki Sawada shared Structural Transformation at the Intensive and Extensive Margins: Insights from Long-Term Panel Data on Laguna Villages.

Dr. Christian Otchia presented on Cross-Border Spillover Effects of Special Economic Zones: Evidence from Laos and Thailand.

Dr. Emmanuel Genesis T. Andal presented on Perspectives on the Barriers to Nuclear Power Generation I the Philippines: Prospects for Directions in Energy Research in the Global South. 

Ms. Kazumi Sawada shared Japanese Investment and Industrial Parks in the Philippines: Evidence and Implications. 

A student research session followed, where speakers exchanged perspectives and answered questions from the discussant and audience.

“Vulnerability of Rice Farmer Households in the Philippines to Climate Change Related Hazards” by Ms. Rowena Dorado (Graduate School of International Development)

“From Theory to Development: A Systematic Approach to Building-up Agent-based Models for Fisheries Governance in the Philippines” by Mr. Paul Joseph Ramirez (Graduate School of International Development)

“Harnessing Demographic Dividend: Labor Force Participation and Gender Dynamics in the Philippines” by Mr. Merwin Salazar (Graduate School of International Development)

We also held a collaborative planning session focused on building sustainable research partnerships among University of the Philippines Los Baños, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and Nagoya University.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants and speakers who made this event possible.
