First Filipino scholar of Nagoya University Asian Satellite Campuses Institute successfully completes doctorate degree under the NU Transnational Doctoral program

Nagoya, Japan – Mr. Ronilo O. de Castro, Science Research Specialist II and Swine Research Manager of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development – Department of Science and Technology (PCAARRD-DOST) has successfully completed his doctorate degree in Nagoya University (NU) under the Transnational PhD program for leading professionals in Asian countries. The graduation ceremony was held on 25 March 2019 at the Toyoda Auditorium of Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan and was attended by 1,500 masters and doctorate students. The ceremony was graced by NU President Seiichi Matsuo and Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda, president of NU alumni association who delivered an inspirational message. Dr. de Castro who obtained the Doctorate Degree in Agriculture Science (Animal Production) is one among 18 successful graduates of the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences (GSBS).

Dr. de Castro is also a recipient of Nagoya University-SEARCA PhD Research Scholarship grant.
It may be recalled that three years ago the Nagoya University Asian Satellite Campus (NUASC) based at the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) formally started its operation in the Philippines and welcomed Mr. de Castro then as the first Filipino Doctorate scholar during the opening and entrance ceremony held on 8 March 2016 at Acacia Hotel, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
