The 2020 ASCI Autumn Doctoral Graduation Ceremony

Due to the current situation caused by Covid-19 pandemic, ASCI hosted an online graduation ceremony via ZOOM conferencing on September 28, 2020. This form of conferencing connected ASCI in Nagoya with the Cambodian and Mongolian satellite campuses in order to acknowledge three doctoral candidates: on Dr. Enkhbold Sereenen and Dr. Altantuya Jigjidsuren of the Graduate School of Medicine and Dr. Tep Bengthay of the Graduate School of Bio Agricultural Sciences. These three successfully completed their Doctoral Degree under ASCI’s “Transnational Doctoral Programs for Leading Professional in Asian Countries”.



The ceremony started with opening remarks by Prof. Isoda Fumio, Director of ASCI and was followed with congratulatory messages from Dr. Kazuhito Kawakita, Vice President of Nagoya University; Dr. Nobuyuki Hamajima, Graduate School of Medicine; and Dr. Satoru Tsuchikawa, Dean of Graduate School Bioagricultural Sciences.  

As part of the ceremony each of the candidates presented their research work that they conducted in the program. Dr. Enkhbold went first and presented is study entitled Estimation of the Unvaccinated among those Aged Less than 25 Years According to Aimag and the Association with Measles Incidence in 2015-2016 Measles Outbreak in Mongolia. This was followed by Dr. Altantuya Jigjidsuren who spoke about her research concerning the Free and Universal Access to Primary Healthcare in Mongolia: Service Availability and Readiness Assessment. Dr. Tep Bengthay wrapped up the presentations with a discussion on his work of a Study on Reproduction and Productivity of Cattle under Tropical Climate in Cambodia.

After the research presentations, Professor Isoda Fumio, the Director of ASCI, opened the floor for questions. The supervisors, sub-supervisors as well as professors from not only the Graduate School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences but also Graduate School of Law, Graduate School of International Development and Graduate School of Environmental Studies asked various questions about different parts of the doctoral research work. Each student provided detailed answers to the research-related questions.

Mongolian graduates had been appointed to high-level government positions. Dr. Enkhbold Sereenen is the former Head of the Department of Policy Implementation and Coordination at the Ministry of Health of Mongolia and now a project coordinator of a World Bank Project on eHealth. Dr. Altantuya Jigjidsuren used to be the State Secretary at the Ministry of Health and now works at the Asian Development Bank. After the presentations, Dr. Oyunkhand, the Head of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Health of Mongolia congratulated both for successfully defending their doctoral dissertations at ASCI, Nagoya University. The graduate from Cambodia, Dr. Tep Bengthay holds a high ranking position in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as the Deputy Director for the Department of Animal Health and Production.
 
Lastly, Dr. Akira Yamauchi, Deputy Director of ASCI congratulated the students and closed the ceremony.
